Vision impairment may only be improved with cataract surgery. Are You a Candidate for Lasik? Thorough eye examinations revealed that her corneas are too thin to safely perform a full Lasik procedure and therefore would not correct her vision to 20/20. With the help of her optometrist, Dr. Terry Shultz from Spectrum Eyecare, she chose the option of lense implant surgery. Dr. Shultz referred Kathleen to The Windsor Laser Eye Institute and the skills of Dr. Fouad Tayfour. He is a pioneer in the field of laser and lense implant surgery and has trained many of the region's eye surgeons. To minimize discomfort and reduce the chance of infection, Dr. Tayfour implanted only the left lense on Thursday. My parents were very kind to drive out and join us for the weekend which made our one week stay in Windsor, Ontario much more enjoyable. With some discomfort and light sensitivity in her left eye, Kathleen managed to enjoy the local shops and attractions. Dr. Tayfour implanted the right lense the following Monday. He examined and tested her eyes Tuesday morning to confirm that other than minor astigmatism her vision had been corrected to 20/20. Dr. Tayfour told Kathleen to wait three months and then return to have minor Lasik performed. We returned to Windsor in March, 2006 and the minor Lasik procedure corrected her astigmatism. Many thanks to Dr. Shultz, Dr. Tayfour and their support staffs, now I can enjoy her beautiful brown eyes all of the time. The money we will save on contacts, glasses, maintenance products and regular eye examinations will more than make up for the cost of the procedure over time. It is now April of 2008 and Kathleen's vision is excellent. 2 years have passed without any discomfort or unusual conditions, I am confident that her vision correction will be a long term success. |
